Our time in Key West is coming to an end. Checkout at the campground is by noon on March 1 - tomorrow. But with predictions of some bad weather in the south, we are considering leaving this evening and getting a jump start on a very long trip back to Maryland. We'll decide a bit later today whether or not we do that. Last night we caught the sunset and pictures of that seemed to be the perfect way to end this trip blog. After we get home and get settled, this page will have more to do with glass beads and these pictures will go into the family section linked from the bottom of this page.. Hope you have enjoyed sharing our trip.

The other day we got the kayak out again and I got some pictures of Jack. Thought I would share them with you. He is a pretty good little sailor but we still put a PFD on him. When he get close to shore, he sometimes decides to go for it!

Once he starts towards shore, that handle on the back of the PFD sure comes in handy!

Down a short road a few miles from our campground is this weird looking structure. It is a bat house - and it is huge! A couple of stories high. The story goes that a fellow came to the Keys the first part of the 20th century and the bugs were so bad that he decided to bring bats to in to control them. So he built this house and imported thousands of bats. They flew out of the house the first night and were never seen again. And the bugs were still here by the millions.

Yesterday we were going into town to visit the used book store ( we have read an awful lot this year because of the cooler weather) and we went by this lot where they teach you how to make sand sculptures. Big ones! Apparently they had been working over the weekend - the giraff is taking shape and cupid was finished. I thought you might like to see them,

One of our neighbors has a 3 foot high coconut palm that she started from a coconut she found that had a sprout. I think that is really cool and she and I have been looking for one for me. She found me one, then Gary and I found 3 ourselves. So now I am going to try to get these started. We also found a couple for Marlene and Chris. Next year there may be a whole forest of coconut palms in front of our campers! Sorry the hibiscus isn't blooming at the moment, but you can see some of the buds - it blooms beautifully!

One the best pictures we have gotten of Jack.

A few pictures from around the campground. We are on the end (right) - barely in the picture - then our friends from Ontario, then those from Ohio and finally those from PA (left). Marlene is on the left and Annette on the right in front of the campers.

Many campers bring their pets along - usually cats or dogs (mostly dogs) - but some bring more unusual ones. This couple came all the way from Washington (state).

We all went to look - myself, Marlene and Annette.

Thought I would give you a view of our "neighborhood" here at Leo's Campground.

Happy Day After Valentine's Day!
Last week we got ourselves some bikes. If you can't swim, there are other outside things that you want to do. Gary found his bike at a thrift shop but I went to the bike shop near the campground to get mine. I needed something for a girl, a bit smaller then most and something where I could feel stable. Found just the thing! (Mine is the white one!)

We have been trying to ride every day and get Jack used to riding in the crate on Gary's:

I love this bike - now to find somewhere at home where I can ride - with no hills. I have only fallen once and that was the first day and not so bad. I won't show you the bruise on my calf the size of my hand. It is fading.

It is cooler then hoped for but we are having fun. We think we have solved the seat problem in the kayak so we are hoping to get on the water this afternoon. Of course, we had to work it out at the campground on dry land! Jack likes the kayak.

Keep checking for more from the Keys!

Do you remember the wonky chickens I made for the Key West Craft Show last year?

I made them again for the show this year and added funky, fun colored kitties - which I forgot to get a picture of. They were a hit both at the Key West Craft Show and at the Pigeon Key Art Festival last weekend. Now they can be found at Island Style on Duval Street in Key West. These items are so "Key-z", that they really fit in with the fun items in this gallery. If you come down this way, you will find this really cool gallery at 620 Duval Street. Please stop in and see all the fun, funky items they carry.

Hi, Everyone!

We finally got Gary's Christmas present - an inflatable kayak - out of the box and into the water. Thankfully, although our friends arrived to see the maiden launch, there are no pictures of the event! Unflattering pictures of Debby do not make it onto this web page! But when we came back, I got some pictures of Gary and Jack. Jack rode beautifully in the initial ride and every other time as well.

I think there is a smudge on Gary's camera lens - there seems to be one in the center of every picture. We'll have to get that fixed.

Gary talking Jack into the kayak:

While we were packing up, Gary spotted an iguana sunning itself on the branch of a bush:

And in the nearby channel, we saw this school of fish - hope they are clear enough:

The Key West Craft Show was just fun! What more can I say. We saw some folks who had purchased from us before and met lots of new ones. I love meeting new people. And it was surprising how many were from Maryland or knew our home area really well. I even met some ladies who were born and raised in Middletown. Very Cool.

The show was a successful one as well. I had some favorite styles and some new designs. All did well. Next week is Pigeon Key Art Festival (Feb.6-7, 2010), Marathon Key, FL., so we will do it all again. Then we have several weeks to just relax before we head home.

You know, you look at your display but never see the goofs until you look at the pictures - like crooked table cloths, uneven lengths, crooked signs, etc. oh well, I'll try to notice those things next week!

Here are some other pictures -

Jack trying to visit the little dog next door:

I just had to get a hibiscus this year:

We'll be taking some more pictures, I am sure.

As always - enjoy each day to the fullest!
Debby
